Custom Tracking Domain

When you turn on open or click tracking, BetterMerge adds tracking links to your emails. By default those links use a shared BetterMerge domain. A custom tracking domain makes them use a subdomain you own instead, such as track.yourcompany.com.

Availability

Custom tracking domains are not part of the standard self-service plans. They are set up with our support team for eligible accounts. Contact support to ask whether your account qualifies.

What a Tracking Link Is

A tracking link records an open, a click, or an unsubscribe and then sends the recipient on to the right destination. Without a custom domain, BetterMerge tracking links look like this:

Every account gets its own subdomain, but the base domain, tenlnk.com, is shared by all BetterMerge users.

Why Use Your Own Domain

A shared tracking domain has some drawbacks:

• Shared reputation: if other senders on the same domain send poor-quality email, spam filters can treat that domain with more suspicion.
• Unfamiliar links: recipients who hover over a link see a domain they don’t recognize.
• Link scanning: some email security tools look more closely at links on domains shared by many senders.

With a custom tracking domain:

• Your links carry your own reputation, not the reputation of other senders.
• Links match your brand, so they look more trustworthy to recipients.
• Opens, clicks, and unsubscribes work exactly as before. Only the domain in the link changes.

How to Set It Up

1. Choose a subdomain you control, such as track.yourcompany.com. Use a subdomain rather than your main website domain.
2. Contact support with the subdomain you chose.
3. Add the DNS records we send you at your domain provider.
4. We verify and activate the domain. This usually happens once your DNS changes have spread, which can take from a few minutes to a day.

After activation, emails sent from then on use your domain for tracking links. Emails that were already sent keep their original links, and those links keep working.

Keep the DNS Records in Place

Leave the DNS records in place for as long as you use the custom domain. If they are removed, tracking links on that domain stop working.

Will my old tracking links break?

No. Links in emails you already sent keep using the domain they were sent with and continue to work.

What happens if the custom domain stops being available on my account?

New emails go back to using the default BetterMerge tracking domain. Tracking keeps working; only the domain in new links changes.

Can I use my main website domain?

Use a dedicated subdomain, such as track.yourcompany.com. It keeps tracking separate from your website and your main email setup.
