Track Clicks
Introduction
In this article, you will learn how to track link clicks in BetterMerge. Click tracking provides insights into which recipients clicked the links in your emails, along with the time and details of the clicks.
How to Enable Link Click Tracking
To enable click tracking:
- Create an new campaign.
- Go to the Advanced section.
- Enable the Track Link Clicks option.
How to View Click Tracking Reports
You can view click tracking reports in two ways:
- Campaign Report - Open the BetterMerge Google Sheets add-on or the web dashboard. Go to My Campaigns, select the campaign, and navigate to the Tracking Logs section to see detailed click data.
- Google Sheets - In the Google Sheet storing your email list, the STATUS column will display
CLICKED
for recipients who clicked a link. The LOGS column will show the date, time, and the URL of the clicked link.
How Link Tracking Works
When link tracking is enabled, BetterMerge replaces each link with a unique, trackable URL that redirects to the original destination. This allows the system to record:
- Which recipient clicked the link
- The time and date of the click
- How many times the link was clicked
Technical considerations:
- Redirect delay - Since links are redirected through BetterMerge’s tracking domain, recipients may experience a brief delay.
- Privacy blockers - Some recipients may use privacy extensions or email clients that block or alter tracking links, preventing accurate tracking.
- False clicks - Email security scanners may trigger false clicks by preloading links to check for malicious content.
Pros and Cons of Click Tracking
Pros:
- Provides accurate engagement insights.
- Helps identify interested recipients.
- More reliable than open tracking.
Cons:
- May be blocked by privacy tools.
- Redirect delay could slightly affect user experience.
- Security scanners can trigger false clicks.
Best Practices for Reliable Click Tracking

- Use clear link text - Avoid misleading or suspicious links to prevent spam filters from blocking them.
- Combine with open tracking - Using both methods offers a more complete picture of engagement.
- Test links before sending - Ensure all tracked links redirect correctly.
Conclusion
Click tracking in BetterMerge allows you to monitor recipient engagement by recording when and how often links are clicked. While it provides valuable insights, it can be affected by privacy tools and security scanners. For better accuracy, consider using a Custom Tracking Domain, which improves deliverability and reduces the chances of links being flagged by spam filters.
