How to View Tracking Logs

Tracking logs provide important insights into the performance of your email campaigns, such as how many recipients opened your emails, clicked on links, or unsubscribed. BetterMerge (formerly Mailway Mail Merge) offers detailed tracking logs to help you analyze these metrics and optimize your campaigns. This guide will show you how to access and interpret these logs effectively.

To view the tracking logs, navigate to the Campaign Report page and select the ‘Tracking Logs’ tab. This tab aggregates logs for various tracking activities related to your campaign.

Tracking Logs Tab

On the Tracking Logs page, you will find four filter options:

  • All: View all tracking logs combined.
  • Opens: See logs for email opens.
  • Clicks: View logs for link clicks within your emails.
  • Unsubscribes: Check logs for unsubscribe actions.

Select the appropriate filter to focus on the type of tracking logs you want to review.

Depending on the filter selected, the logs will show the following details:

  • Opens Logs: Indicates which recipients opened your emails and when. Filter Options Opens Logs

  • Clicks Logs: Shows which recipients clicked on links within your emails. Clicks Logs Clicks Logs

  • Unsubscribes Logs: Lists recipients who unsubscribed from your emails. Unsubscribes Logs

The Counted as column shows whether each interaction added to your campaign totals:

  • First engagement: The recipient’s first open, click, or unsubscribe for this campaign. Only this interaction adds to the campaign’s totals.
  • New link: The recipient had already clicked before, but this is the first time they clicked this particular link. It doesn’t change the campaign’s click total.
  • Repeat: A repeated open or click from the same recipient. It’s kept here for detail but doesn’t change your totals.
  • —: An older interaction recorded before this breakdown existed.

Step 4: Monitor Tracking Logs in Google Sheets

Section titled “Step 4: Monitor Tracking Logs in Google Sheets”

In addition to the Tracking Logs page, BetterMerge updates your Google Sheet for every open, click, and unsubscribe. The ‘STATUS’ and ‘METADATA’ columns keep a line for every interaction, so you can see when a recipient opened or clicked more than once, even though each recipient is only counted once in your campaign totals.
